The Mercedes-Benz R129 is a roadster. The two-seat sports car is part of the Mercedes Benz SL-series. In the R129 they used an automatic roll bar for the first time, which in the event of a rollover extends within 0.3 seconds. A further safety feature is the A-pillars, which are mostly resistant to buckling in the case of a rollover. New were the integral seats, where the seatbelt and the headrest are integrated into the seat. They offer a much better lateral support than the older seats. The special models of the R129 series are different from the production series because of the more exclusive interior. Between 1995 and 2001 there were 17 special series with 10 to 1.515 vehicles.

During the "Final Edition" in the year 2000 they only built 674 vehicles.
