About the car
The Mercedes-Benz 190 SL is technically based on the sedan in the W121 range ("Ponton" model). In 1953 the idea arose, in order to increase business in the US, of creating two different designs for models of sports cars as an extension to the Mercedes range of models which, until then, had been rather conservative. The 190 SL was intended to approach its "big brother", the 300 SL Gullwing.
